Brooklyn, New York · Hoping to Adopt
A note to you
The decision you are facing is one of the most courageous acts of love a person can make, and we do not take lightly that you are here. This page is for you, and we mean every word on it.
We are Gregory and Sherah. We live in Brooklyn, New York, and we have spent years building a life rooted in love, family, faith, and the belief that a child changes everything for the better.
Our goal has never been to continue a bloodline. It has always been to grow our love.
Our story
We met in the fall of 2018. A mentor invited Gregory to perform in a dance piece and he showed up to the first rehearsal not knowing what to expect. The partner piece he had been assigned was with Sherah. Three minutes in, they both knew. She had already told her fellow dancers that he was going to be her husband. They had never spoken.
He waited until after the November performance to ask her out, because she was a professional and she would not date her dance partner. He waited. She was worth every minute of it. Eight months later, he proposed.
In September 2023, they were married in a traditional Greek Orthodox ceremony on Long Island, surrounded by everyone they love. The photo above is from the performance where our story began.
Gregory
Gregory grew up in New York City in a large, close-knit Greek family with deep roots in the Greek Orthodox faith. He has devoted his entire career to helping young people find their path and reach their potential, working as a university dean and educator.
He is also an artist, a surfer, and someone who finds beauty in ordinary things. He is the kind of person who makes every room warmer just by being in it.
Gregory’s parents, Kathryn and Roger, live fifteen minutes away in Manhattan. His mother, Kathryn, has already committed to being an active presence in any child’s life from the very first day. We call it Camp Yiayia, and it is exactly as wonderful as it sounds.
Sherah
Sherah spent 25 years as a professional ballet dancer, performing on stages around the world. She now works to protect the rights of women and children internationally. Nothing she does is accidental.
She is from Virginia, and her sister Rebecca, her closest friend in the world, calls every single day. Family is not background in Sherah’s life. It is the center of it.
Sherah is the kind of mother who will be completely and wholeheartedly present, from the very first moment.
Family & Community
Gregory’s extended Greek family gathers at the family home on Long Island for Easter, summers, and every holiday. Sherah’s family is in Virginia, and they visit often. Babies and children are already a constant presence in our lives.
There are cousins, uncles, and members of the clergy woven through every part of our family. A child who comes to us will never wonder whether they are surrounded by love. They will be able to count it.
Life together
Egypt, Morocco, Greece, the Atlantic, the Mediterranean. We go everywhere together and find joy in all of it. A child who comes into our family will grow up knowing the world is wide and full of possibility.
Stella
Stella was our dog, and she was everything a dog can be. She showed up to every gathering, took up every couch, and made everyone who met her love her immediately. She passed away not long ago, and we still feel her absence every day.
We include her here because she was part of our family, and our family includes everyone who has mattered to us. That is the kind of home we are hoping to grow.
What we promise
For who they are, where they came from, and the story that brought them to us. We will make sure they grow up knowing that the decision you made was one of the most profound acts of love in the world, and that they are cherished because of it, not in spite of it.
